Because the Friesland you can discover with us is not about water sports, sailing boats and fierljeppen, nor is it about the Elfstedentocht.
We will introduce you to the Frisians' struggle with the sea and their battle with undesirable powers. You are going to hear about the Free Frisians, about wayward peat cutters and sturdy fisherwomen, about the Frisian nobility and their impressive legacy to the Frisian land. Does Friesland have forests and heathland? Yes it certainly does! Beautiful mysterious forests surrounded by fairytale moorland.
Of course you have heard about the many mound villages and the Wadden area. These are also definitely and extensively covered in our routes through the Frisian countryside.
The province of Friesland also has three UNESCO World Heritage listings. Three unique world-class sites.
And.... so many bell towers. There are more than 60 of them, all beautiful and unique!
