No matter who you ask, people who live, work and live in the Grain Republic start shining their eyes when you ask what makes the Grain Republic so special. The people love their region, are proud of it and are very happy to convey that to visitors and guests.
You could almost describe the Grain Republic as a region as picturesque. The way the Grain Republic colours through the seasons, there is no other area in our country. In spring, the cornfields turn a fresh green colour, alongside the bright yellow rapeseed fields and the cheerful splash of colour of the bulb fields. With a little breeze, the fields look like a slightly wavy carpet of colour. In summer, the grain sways long and in all shades of golden yellow in the wind. Just before harvesting, you can hear the grain; it crackles, crackles lightly.
The farms with their front houses like palaces, and the winding gardens show you that this region was the richest part of the Netherlands in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Holland's gold grew in the ground here then. That was back in the day. The situation has changed quite a bit. During the route, you'll hear all about that.
Of course, the route also passes by the Dollard, part of the UNESCO Wadden Sea Heritage Site.
Along the way, there are plenty of moments to get out to see more, and for short walks.
Coffee/tea and a treat will be served at the start location. For lunch, a spot will be reserved at one of the catering outlets along the way.
