If you have arrived in Oldambt, or the Grain Republic, for many you are 'very far away in the far north'. And that is of course true if you come from below Drenthe or even further afield.

For those who love it - the area always leaves you standing still. Stand still because of the vast expanse of the view, across the seemingly endless wheat fields. Whether you like it or not, it impresses always and everyone.

While driving, the Grain Republic car puzzle tour tells you the story of the rich years of the gentleman farmers, of the workers' struggles, of the innovations of agriculture that came from here and were taken up worldwide.

You will discover how the area was created; how the land was overcome on the waters of the Dollard.

With your own eyes, you will get an impression of the golden years of the grain farmers, with their palaces as farmhouses, with the tenant houses and their lush gardens.

Day 1 Grain Republic two-day package

On the date you booked, you will drive to the starting location of the "Grain Republic" route. That is the Huninga's Heem, beautifully located on the Oldambt Lake.

There - before you start the route - you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a delicacy.

Upon confirmation of the route, you will receive the address where lunch is planned that day.

The route takes you through the fascinating region, with, on the one hand, the most expansive views you can imagine. You will also drive through villages with unique stories, over dykes, waters, as well as along roads with a ribbon of farms with front houses like palaces.

The stories about dealing with the Dollard, about Termunterzijl, about the impact of the Second World War show how and why this region developed the way it did.

The route ends at another location on Lake Oldambt.

In Termunterzijl or nearby, there are some locations for refreshments. The route book also gives some tips on this.

Before or after dinner, drive to your hotel or B&B where you can spend the night in comfort. Time for check-in and other details will be sent at the time of booking.

Day 2 Grain Republic Two-day package

Day 2 starts off rested with a delicious breakfast. After checking out, this day is yours to fill in.

Some suggestions:

**didn't manage to visit the Cremer Museum pumping station in Termunterzijl on the first day, or (from spring onwards) spot seals at the bird-watching wall on the Dollard? Then now is your chance.

Travel fee: € 159.00 per person. (based on two people minimum). Additional persons on request.

Included: LocalGroningen route 'Grain Republic' * 1x coffee/tea with cake * 1x lunch (package) * 1x overnight stay + breakfast * booking and administration fee.

Not included: other meals and drinks * entrance tickets * parking costs for own car * cost of refuelling/charging the car * other personal expenses.

Accommodation: you will stay overnight in an attractive local hotel or comfortable B&B in the nearby region from where the 'Grain Republic' route is mapped out. First, we request availability at one of the special B&Bs in the oldest and completely restored Oldambt farmhouse of the Grain Republic. If there is no availability there on the chosen date, we approach our network of other fine B&Bs in the region.

If you have special wishes, feel free to let us know. We will do our best to fulfil your wishes. If there are additional costs involved, we will discuss them in advance.

Conditions

Booking and deposit: After booking, you will receive a confirmation from us and also the invoice. A deposit of at least 50% of the total travel sum is due within 3 days of sending the travel confirmation. The remaining amount is due no later than 4 weeks before the booking date.

If the trip is booked within 4 weeks of departure, the entire travel sum is payable at once.

Cancellation: If you cancel the booking, the following cancellation fees are due:-

from 42 days up to 30 days before the day of departure: 40% of the travel sum
from 30 days to 7 days before the day of departure: 75% of the travel sum
from 7 days before departure: 100%.
