You won't see big lakes, but you will see historic moorland interspersed with mysterious forests. It is beautiful riding along the old canals with their locks and bridges, through the rich country estates and along the vast heathlands. Also very pretty are the little churches and belfries in typical Frisian villages.
It is a beautiful setting in which wayward peat diggers and the Frisian nobility played the leading roles. So you really get to know Friesland in a different way.
The route starts in stately Beetsterzwaag at the new Salie restaurant.
At Salie inside or in the beautiful garden, you can start with coffee/tea and a home-made delicacy. Beetsterzwaag invites you for a short walk through the monumental Hoofdstraat. The route then winds its way through the region, ending, after many highlights, at the special, cosy and well-stocked local shop 'De Gelder' (according to connoisseurs the best local shop in Friesland).
