You can expect the following

Wat kun je verwachten?

You'd better have a backyard like that! The Groningen 'backyard' becomes a journey:

through impressive new nature,
over sand ridges, through peat and marsh areas, and through primeval forest
through the country estate belt,
through historic Drentse brink villages,
to the UNESCO monument Kolonie van Weldadigheid (which is less than 40 km from the city of Groningen).

The Groningen influences are evident, but as you get further south it becomes more and more Drenthe.

Upon entering Veenhuizen, you are suddenly in a completely different world. It tells you about the unique social experiment that was internationally emulated in its time. You can do a guided walk past the various monumental buildings and the surrounding grounds. Ask for the information booklet with audio support. Visiting the Prison Museum is also a must. If you are on time, you can take the 'Boevenbus'.

Tip: at the end, order a nice drink at the Bitter and Sweet restaurant to recover from all the impressions.

Wednesday

On the date you booked, drive to the starting location of the route "De Achtertuin van Groningen", in Peize.

There - before you start the route - you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a delicacy. Upon confirmation of the route, you will receive the address where lunch is planned that day.

The route takes you through a fascinating region, linking new and old nature, from old Groningen chic riches to poor pre-history in the old Drenthe moors. You will hear about social dealings with poor and sick slobs in the last century, and to top it off, the story of the internationally renowned social experiment in the Colony of Weldadigjheid.

Along the way, you are sure to find a few nice locations for some refreshments, with a tip to end the day at the café/restaurant Bitter&Zoet in Veenhuizen.

Travel date: can be booked all year round.

Travel price: €43.75 p.p. (based on two people minimum). Extra persons € 31.00 p.p.

Not included: other meals and drinks * entrance tickets to the Colony of Weldadigheid museum * parking costs for own car * costs for refuelling/recharging the car * other personal expenses.

Booking and payment: After booking, you will receive a confirmation from us and also the invoice. The booking is final when payment is received in full.

Cancellation: If you cancel the booking, the payment will not be refunded.

A new date can be fixed by mutual agreement.

If a cancellation is within 7 days of the booking date, only the booking as far as the itinerary is concerned can be moved. The catering components will have to be paid for again if you wish to book them on a new date.
